Windermere Part of the BC Adventure Network. Over a million web site visitors annually !

The first European to settle and explore this section was David Thompson, fur trader and map maker who worked for the North West Company. Both Windermere and Invermere were named after England's lakes region.

Windermere is located on Windermere Lake, in the Rocky Mountain Trench and is a beautiful spot surrounded by mountains. It is situated on Highway 93 & 95, 16 km (10 mi.) north of Fairmont Hot Springs and 8 km (5 mi.) south of Invermere. The lake is the focal point, with cabins and year-round homes dotting the lakeshore.

Windermere Lake and Windermere are popular summer resort spots, as well as winter skiing havens. Recreation includes boating, fishing, sailing, sail boarding, swimming, kayaking and whitewater rafting, hiking, biking, down hill and cross country skiing.

At the north end of Windermere Lake is the town of Invermere which serves as the regional centre for the area. St. Peter's Church which was moved from Donald when the CPR transferred their divisional point is a very interesting and historic building in Windermere.
